Two workshops designed to help business owners comply with federal and state laws are scheduled during April and May at the California Agricultural Technology Institute (CATI).

The first workshop is called "Conducting Workplace Investigations: Legal and Practical Do's and Don'ts." It will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17 in the CATI Conference Room. The workshop will cover basic principles of effective investigations, interviewing fundamentals, legal issues and pitfalls, guidelines on corrective actions, and other issues.

The second workshop is entitled "Negotiating the Bermuda Triangle." It will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, May 14, also in the CATI Conference Room. The workshop will address integration of such regulations as the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and state workers' compensation laws.

Speaker for both workshops is Michael C. Saqui, attorney with the labor law firm of Barsamian and Saqui. He has experience in various aspects of employer-employee relations law and practices before both state and federal courts.

The workshops are co-sponsored by CATI's Center for Agricultural Business (CAB) and the UC Cooperative Extension's Agricultural Personnel Management Program. Pre-registration fee for each session is $20 per person; walk-in registration is $30.

For registration information, contact CAB at (559) 278-4405.
