Safety Training Module One to be presented May 5

Module One of the Agricultural Safety Certificate Program, Introductions to Safety Laws and Regulations, will be presented from 1 to 5 p.m. May 5 at the University of California Cooperative Extension in Salinas, California. It will include a review of the safety regulations that affect California agriculture, with an emphasis on compliance with safety order 3203, Injury and Illness Prevention Program.

Topics to be discussed include the problem of high injury, illness and fatality rates in agriculture; a review of the major safety regulations affecting the agricultural workplace; a detailed review of safety order 3203; and Injury and Illness Prevention Program planning and implementation.

Workshop presenter will be Ben W. Laverty III, owner and president of California Safety Training Corporation. Laverty has been a featured speaker for various organizations, including the National Safety Council. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his presentations as well as high energy and enthusiasm.

Sponsors of the certificate program are California State University, Fresno’s Center for Agricultural Business, and the Grower Shipper Vegetable Association of Central California.
