Training workshops on a variety of agricultural safety issues are
expected to draw hundreds of participants to the upcoming Western Agricultural Safety
Conference and Exposition slated for Wednesday, March 4, in Visalia, California.
With agricultural safety becoming a dominant issue for Californias farm and food
processing industries, the event will provide an excellent opportunity for obtaining
information and building industry contacts, reported Kimberly Naffziger, coordinator of
the event for the Center for Agricultural Business (CAB) at California State University,
Fresno.
This first-time western regional conference will offer 24 workshops, including several
taught in Spanish, as well as exhibits featuring safety equipment, services and supplies.
This is really a safety extravaganza. A person can attend workshops, see
demonstrations and visit the many exhibits. This event should have something for
everyone, Naffziger said.
Workshops will be grouped under the following main topics: Safety for Agricultural
Supervisors; Effective Management for Safety Incidents; Topics in Advanced Safety
Management; Ergonomics in the Workplace; Safety Laws and Compliance; and Continuing
Education for Pesticide Handlers. Six workshops will be taught in Spanish.
In addition to the workshops and exhibits, participants will be able to see
demonstrations on tractor safety, electrical safety, motor vehicle safety, ergonomics,
equipment safety and chemical safety.
The day-long event will be held at the Visalia Convention Center and Exhibit Hall. A
networking reception will conclude the day, Naffziger said.
Conference sponsors are CAB, the California Agricultural Technology Institute, and
AgSafe, which will be hosting its own fourth annual conference the next day at the same
location (please see sidebar article).
Cost to attend the conference and exposition is $79 in advance or $95 at the door.
Special discounts are available for companies sending three or more persons.
