Short courses to focus on viticulture and irrigation

Two short courses on irrigated viticulture issues will be offered to California grape growers this month and again in April.The first offering is designed especially for growers in the San Joaquin Valley and will be held Jan. 15 and 16 at California State University, Fresno. It is titled Irrigated Viticulture in the San Joaquin Valley.
The second course will target growers on the central California coast and will be held April 2 and 3 at Hancock College in Santa Maria. It is titled Irrigated Viticulture on the Central Coast.
In each case the course will cover one and one-half days. It will feature viticulture and irrigation specialists known both locally and statewide addressing topics such as site selection, plant material, irrigation systems, pest management, wine quality in the vineyard, and mechanization and labor issues.
All topics will be addressed with the goal of helping growers increase quality, yield and profitability. The Fresno event will include a tour of experimental vineyards on Fresno States university farm.
Pre-registration fee for either conference is $85 per person and includes admission to all sessions, refreshments on both days, one lunch, and a program booklet.
