Wine grape growers and winemakers have a chance later this month to get some help in responding to the latest federal regulations governing food quality. A two-day short course designed with central California coast wine grape growers and winemakers in mind will be held April 29 and 30 at the Santa Maria Airport Hilton in Santa Maria.

On April 29, presentations will focus on understanding the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) and its impact on growers and wine-makers. Discussions will address alternate vineyard and winery practices.

On April 30, researchers and industry representatives will discuss clones and how to select the best clones for growing regions, followed by a central coast vineyard and winery tour. This tour will provide a unique opportunity for participants to network with leading growers and experts while viewing new plantings and innovative systems for vineyard and winery operations. Continuing education credit will be offered.

The conference is sponsored by Fresno State’s Viticulture and Enology Research Center (VERC) in cooperation with the Enology and Viticulture Program of Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria.
