A new endowment to support educational activities has been established at CIT. The fund
has the support of a core group of companies and individuals in the commercial
irrigation industry, stated CIT Director David Zoldoske in announcing the endowment.
The first-tier goal is to reach one-half million dollars before June 30, 1999. To date,
the charter contributors have pledged $355,000. The endowment was established to support
educational activities for both industry and the community.
In outlining the need for financial support, Zoldoske said that since its formation 15
years ago at the behest of the irrigation industry, CIT remains largely self-supporting,
with less than 20 percent of its funding coming directly from state sources.
"Educational events are mostly self-funded through fee arrangements. But this has
left out a large portion of the industry, where fees are inappropriate or not
possible." The endowment will enable CIT to make events and activities available to
every level of the industry, as well as to interested individuals.
The core of industry leaders making the first pledges includes Ewing Irrigation
Products, Hunter Industries, Mr. David Miller, Rain Bird Sales, The Toro Company and
Valmont Irrigation. Zoldoske applauded their support. "They have our pledge that the
revenues from the endowment will be put to productive use," he said.
