- Major Research Interest: Regulation of Cell Processes Using Yeasts as Model Systems

- Initiated the first research program on the genetics of wine strains of Saccharomyces in the Western Hemisphere

- Substantial research conducted with several other genera of yeasts, including Schizosaccharomyces, Pachysolen, Pichia and Zygosaccharomyces – over $350,000 in research grants
 

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES AND AFFILIATIONS

- Member of the faculty accreditation committee for Indiana University, Kokomo

- Active role in teaching, research and administration in the Dept. Microbiology & Genetics, Massey University, during its expansion from 15 students majoring in microbiology to 50 students majoring in microbiology and genetics

- Advisor for curriculum development for microbiology and genetics majors

- Coordinator of undergraduate timetable and courses

- Supervised, in conjunction with project manager, the design and construction of a 4-story (32,000 sq. ft.) microbiology building
